CATH Release Notes

The CATH database is constantly being updated through automated algorithms and manual curation.

The most up-to-date annotations can be found in the CATH daily snapshots where we provide a limited amount of information (domain boundaries and superfamily assignments) for the very latest snapshot of the current database.

We also provide major releases (CATH-Plus) where we take a branch of the database through the full release process: adding internal checks, associating functional and sequence annotations, creating datasets, and so on.

Information from all releases can be downloaded from the Download page, general stats on each CATH-Plus release is provided below.

CATH-Plus Version 4.4

Based on PDB release: Oct 01, 2024

CATH-Plus Version 3.1

Based on PDB release: 14 Jan, 2007

We spent a great deal of effort identifying and correcting errors such as incorrectly chopped chains and misassigned domains. This meant that a number of homologous superfamilies (and folds) were merged with other nodes or removed as CATH domains were rechopped or reassigned.

Changes since v3.0:

  • 7,734 newly assigned domains
  • 47 homologous superfamilies were merged or removed
  • 26 folds (topologies) were merged or removed
